You, the fortunate traveler, the honored guest amongst the remarkable wildlife, will experience Darwin’s first glimpse of these Islas Encantadas (Enchanted Isles), where he made the unique creatures a cornerstone of his theory of evolution by natural selection.

First officially discovered in 1535, the islands have had a rich and varied history, filled with fur seal hunters, buccaneers, fishermen, whalers, scientists and, recently, curious and adventurous travelers. The indigenous wildlife is fascinating, accessible and often amusing—witness the courtship rituals of the comical blue-footed boobies. Flora and fauna have adapted to unusual conditions and are a living study of evolutionary science. The islands are so isolated there are few natural predators and animals have little fear of humans, allowing you to get unbelievably close to them. The giant Galapagos tortoises, Darwin’s finches, albatross, marine iguanas, Galapagos penguins and throngs of sea lions are readily seen and present great photo opportunities!

You will have the opportunity to visit many of the islands, all of volcanic origin, several million years old, but with quite diverse terrain—stunning desert landscapes, lush highland forests, lava fields and the rich ocean surrounding them.  This unique Galapagos Islands cruise, on our 32 passenger ship, visits islands not available to larger vessels, allowing for the maximum exposure to and enjoyment of all these enchanted isles have to offer.
